Cathy using the Solly wrap to wear baby Leo while he sleeps

Pippa and I were lucky enough to spend the morning in Venice Beach with Cathy and baby Leo on his 2nd month birthday. Cathy and I know each other from college, but only recently rekindled our friendship when we realized via facebook that we both are living in LA. It has been great to see Cathy again and during such a special time in her life- pregnant and now as a mom. Continue reading

A healthy, easy recipe the whole family can enjoy- baby too!_MCA5263

Kayla and I became friends through our mommy and me class when our daughters were itty bitty. We relate on many levels- we both have girls, we enjoy eating healthy and trying new recipes, and neither of us has had a good night’s sleep since 2013! Continue reading

This is not an absolute list on the best foods to eat postpartum but these foods have been some of my main staples since having a baby. I like to eat food that is going to give me lots of energy, lots of nutrients, and be good for baby (foods rich in fat and calcium make for even better breastmilk!). Continue reading

Your baby loves it and best of all, it is free!

One of Pippa’s favorite things to do these days, is open and close cabinets in the bathroom and the kitchen. I am pretty relaxed towards her curiosity, as long as I can see what she is doing. For that reason, I haven’t “baby-proofed” except to put surge protectors in the outlets. Continue reading

Brandi and I met when we were seven months pregnant at our prenatal yoga class. Both of us were due right around Christmas and as we got closer to the date we were in constant communication about signs of labor. When my daughter was born, the day after Christmas, I was eager to share the news with Brandi and was also excited to hear if her baby had been born. Three days later, Brandi gave birth to Malia. Our baby girls have been friends ever since! Part of the reason I wanted to start this blog, was to feature stories of motherhood, as well as, photos that capture the beauty of mothers and their children. We took these photos at one of our mommy and baby playdates in the park and despite my amateur skill, Brandi and Malia worked the camera fabulously. I could not have asked for a better pair to feature on my premier mommy and baby blog post.  Continue reading

Katie, my doula, holding my hand right after Pippa was born
Katie, my doula, holding my hand right after Pippa was born

A doula is a term for a woman who helps another woman in childbirth. It comes from the ancient Greek and it literally means “a woman who serves.” Before our hospital-centric model, women birthed children at home with the help of midwives and doulas. Continue reading

According to the CDC Breastfeeding Report Card for 2014, almost 80% of new mothers at least try to breastfeed for some duration of time. That number drops to 40% by 3 months and it drops below 20% for mothers who exclusively breastfeed at 6 months. Despite the “breast is best” campaign and mainstream awareness that breastfeeding is the healthiest and best way to nurture a baby, it is still not the norm. Continue reading
